The Mariner Brotherhood
is an organization dedicated to
empowering individuals from underrepresented communities
by providing them with comprehensive training, personal
development, and leadership skills. We focus on preparing
participants for careers in the maritime, transportation, and
public safety industries, while also fostering a deep sense of
responsibility, discipline, and community service.
Our approach is holistic, blending professional development
with life coaching, leadership training, and personal growth to
ensure that each participant excels both personally and
professionally
The Mariner Brotherhood operates as a core program under WESTI, which stands for Waterfront Equity, Safety, Transportation, and Innovation.
Together, we’re building a stronger, safer, and more equitable future along Oakland’s waterfront — a community-based initiative dedicated to empowering people through maritime innovation and brotherhood.
We promote equity, safety, and transportation access along the waterfront, working to uplift underrepresented communities and inspire the next generation of maritime leaders.
Our vision is a thriving maritime community that celebrates diversity, fosters economic opportunity, and preserves the rich heritage of the Port of Oakland. Through partnerships, programs, and advocacy, we cultivate leadership, innovation, and sustainability in the maritime industry.
